Oil still a target in West Norfolk
HOUSEHOLDERS have been sent a renewed warning to be on guard against fuel thieves after another month of raids.
During March, Norfolk Police received 28 reports of theft of heating oil from farms, goods yards and homes.
Police urged people to try to ensure tanks are in a position where access of vehicles is restricted to reduce the risk of thieves pulling up to the tank.
Tanks should be in sight of nearby occupied buildings and not hidden from view behind outbuildings. Lighting may also deter potential thieves.
Control switches should be located in a secure building and the electricity supply turned off when the tank is not in use. A good-quality locking device should also be fitted to all fuel tanks such as a high-quality shackled padlock.
