On sex register after kissing 12-year-old

A 20-YEAR-OLD Fakenham man who was cleared of raping a 12-year-old girl has been placed on the sex offenders' register after being found guilty of a "drunken kiss" with her.

Shaun Cross, of 50 Greenway Lane, had denied rape and four offences of sexually touching the girl in the autumn of 2006.

Last month, a jury at Norwich Crown Court cleared him of rape, but found him guilty of one of the charges of sexually touching, which involved kissing the girl. One of the charges was withdrawn and he was found not guilty of the other two.

Last Monday Cross was sentenced to a 36- month supervision order under which he must attend a sex offenders' programme for up to 60 days. He was also put on the sex offenders' register for five years.

Jonathan Goodman, defending, said the incident was "nothing more than a drunken kiss".
