Over 250 at Leziate quarry open day

MORE than 250 visitors turned out in force when WBB Minerals opened its Leziate quarry to the public on Saturday..

Visitors to the event, based at Leziate Park Country Club, were taken on guided tours of the working quarry in 4x4 vehicles and given an exclusive look at the site's restoration projects – where worked-out areas have been returned to nature.

An exhibition on the history of local quarrying was on offer back at the club where youngsters were treated to a range of activities and competitions.

The event was part of a Europe-wide Minerals Day, where quarries across the continent opened their doors to teach people about the vital role minerals play in modern society.
