Packham backs 'em at Heacham

HEACHAM was a focus of attention for the BBC's Dirty Weekend activities as TV's Springwatch presenter Chris Packham joined local cubs, brownies and volunteers tidying up the North Beach area.

Mr Packham, who has been broadcasting from Pensthorpe, spent several hours in the village on Saturday filming footage to show on Monday evening's programme about the BBC's scheme to improve the appearance of public spaces and allow nature to thrive.

Heacham Parish Council clerk Philippa Sewell said the presenter took part in landscaping and planting around the village's flood memorial with the 1st Heacham Cubs. And he presented them with a certificate, wild flower seeds and bird boxes.

Mr Packham also helped Heacham Brownies, volunteers and a West Norfolk Council team in clearing and replanting the flower beds in front of the public toilets with natural grasses and lavender.

Mrs Sewell said the roundabout near the beach had also been improved with lavender. "The projects have made a really big difference and we are thrilled with what we have achieved," she said.
