Pain brings gain at Lynn firm

SHOUTS of pain could be heard all over Thurlow Nunn's showrooms at Lynn on Friday, but it was all in a good cause and helped to raise money for a disabled eight-year-old.

The victims were a group of managers at the dealership who had volunteered to take part in a sponsored leg wax.

"It was very painful," admitted retail facility manager Michael Smith. "But everyone was very generous and we expect to have raised around 1,800."

The money will go towards an orthopaedic bed for Tayla Locker, who is the daughter of another Thurlow Nunn employee, Gary Locker.

Tayla lives in Essex with her mum Sally Hider, but pays regular visits to her father. Mr Locker said: "Tayla has muscular dystrophy and associated with that she also has rigid spine syndrome and a heart condition."

He said that she had an operation at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital three months ago and although her walking has improved as a result, she still needs to spend much of her time in a wheelchair.

"The condition will always be there and it was suggested at the hospital that a special orthopaedic bed would make her more comfortable," he said.

"Michael Smith kindly organised the sponsored leg wax and the other managers agreed to take part.

"I owe a big thank-you to them, to everyone who sponsored them, and to Thurlow Nunn who supplied flowers for the girls who did the waxing."

The others who took part were accounts manager Adam Johnson, sales manager Shaun Gregory, parts manager Kevin Mortlock, and assistant accounts manager Paul Vine. The waxing was carried out by Emma Whitby, of Woodside Beauty Studio, Hilgay, and Laura Ingham, who is a beautician student at Lynn's College of West Anglia.
