Paper bags at St Germans PO

ST GERMANS Post Office has traded plastic for paper in a bid to help the environment.

Postmistress Mrs Lorna Kirby (56) and husband, Roger (56) are selling paper bags at 5p each – or encouraging customers to bring their bags back each time.

"We thought we would do it to help local wildlife," said Mr Kirby, who was already recycling plastic bags which customers brought in.

"We want to raise awareness about animal welfare issues."

Mr Kirby said the couple were prompted to act after reading articles in the national press featuring animals such as dolphins and turtles caught in rubbish.

The post office in Lynn Road, is currently being run by manageress Sharon Cannell (21), owing to Mrs Kirby's ill-health.
