Paper mill offices open in Lynn

THE company behind the new multi-million pound Saddlebow paper mill has moved into offices in Lynn ahead of the start of construction.

Palm Paper moved into the old court building in London Road yesterday.

The company's new 330 million mill on the former British Sugar site got planning permission at the end of last year and building is due to get under way later this month, with a launch ceremony planned for Thursday, April 17.

There had been threats of the decision to allow the mill to go ahead being challenged at a potentially long-winded and costly judicial review but this now looks increasingly unlikely.

The prospect of a review was put forward by Envios, a consultant working for market competitor Ecco Newsprint, which wants to build a mill in Middlesborough.

Derek Harman, managing director of Palm Paper – the UK arm of the business, said the London Road offices are a stepping stone in the development process.

He said: "The intention is to transfer from this office to mill site offices when the construction is completed in around two years time."
