Pat on back for Springwood parents

PARENTS have publicly been given a share of the credit for Springwood High School's most successful year on record.

At the Lynn school's annual presentation evening on Thursday, headteacher Peter Hopkins said that no matter how excellent the teaching, motivation to succeed came more from home than from the school.

"More and more parents realise how important a good set of qualifications is to success in later life. I trust all the young people here tonight will recognise what an enormous contribution their parents' support and encouragement has made to their achievement."

Mr Hopkins said that while examination results set all-time records and were six per cent ahead of the national average, he stressed it was not through grade inflation or easier exams.

He also was particularly pleased that Springwood pupils were exceeding all expectations, no matter what kind or category of pupil they were.

He praised the teachers and also the non-teaching support staff who were too-often unsung heroes but provided brilliant support.

The prizes were presented by Daniel Bloy, a former pupil and winner of The Queen's Prize, who now works in IT.
