Pearl's handbag keeps changing colour - but why!

A GAYWOOD woman has as handbag with a difference – it changes colour every time she brings it into Lynn.

Pearl Allan, a canteen assistant at Park High School, bought the bag for 4.99 off a market stall on the Tuesday Market Place.

Made of a synthetic-type, slightly shiny material, it is large and has a long strap and she regularly brings it into town on a Saturday to

do her shopping.

However, the bag has inexplicably developed magic-like qualities. At home in Hulton Road it is black... but when Mrs Allan comes into town one side turns a pure white.

"It looks like ice and is a little bit sticky," said a bemused Mrs Allan, who found the bag had become something of an embarrassment.

The first time it happened she "couldn't believe it" she said, adding that the change in colour had happened about a dozen times in all.

"I phoned my husband, Bernard, once. I had been in town an hour. I was in a shop and went to get my purse and the bag had turned white. He

thinks it is weird," she said.

Baffled family and friends have since witnessed the curious phenomenon for themselves.

Once, the bag metamorphasised in front of a taxi driver. "I did get a little bit of the white on my sleeve once though I haven't had it analysed," Mrs Allan said.

Mrs Allan (69) is open to suggestions as to what might be causing the transformation. Once the bag is home, it returns to normal.
