Plans for a 'greener' Fairstead

RESIDENTS of Lynn's Fairstead Estate are being urged to help make their community cleaner and greener by having their say at an event on Tuesday.

Fairstead has been selected as one of only 12 pilot schemes across the country to negotiate a new Neighbour Charter aimed at tackling environmental concerns, such as dog fouling, fly-tipping, litter and the state of parks and play areas.

West Norfolk Council wants to find out residents' views on such issues by inviting them to attend one of three sessions at Fairstead Community Centre.

A discussion aimed at families is being held between 9.30am and 11.30am, when parents, grandparents and carers can voice their ideas while children have fun with an arts-and-crafts session. Coffee, tea and cakes will also be available.

People can go along for an afternoon tea and chat between 3.30pm and 5pm or drop in for a buffet supper and chat between 6pm and 8pm.

Neighbourhood manager Vicky Etheridge said: "Our first task is to find out what the most important issues are for both residents and the service providers such as the borough council, police and Freebridge Community Housing, all of whom have a role to play.

"We want to involve as many people as possible, of all ages and from all corners of the estate, I would encourage everyone to come along and let us know what they think."

"Once a list of priorities for a cleaner, greener neighbourhood is put together, service providers will work with residents to figure out how best to tackle them.

"This might result in changes to service delivery and it may also require a commitment from residents to change their behaviour," said Miss Etheridge.

The Fairstead Charter, due to be finalised at the end of March, will set out the roles and responsibilities for service providers and residents towards achieving its agreed aims, and will also set out how progress will be reviewed.

Anyone who can't make it on Tuesday can still have their say by getting in contact with Miss Etheridge on 01553 763756 or email: vicky. etheridge@west-norfolk.gov.uk, Cllr Ian Gourlay on 01553 770025 or cllr.ian.gourlay@west-norfolk.gov.uk or Cllr Margaret Wilkinson on 01553 766531 or cllr.margaret.wilkinson@west-nor folk.gov.uk
