Pledge to deflate tyre mountain

A WEST Norfolk business park blighted by a controversial tyre "mountain" has a new owner, it was announced last Monday.

French bank Societe Generale revealed completion of the sale of Tattersett Business Park to a private company owned by developer Roger Gawn, who owns the Custom House (now leased to West Norfolk Council) and Purfleet House in Lynn.

In a statement, the bank said the sale reflected its commitment to find a responsible buyer for the park. Hundreds of thousands of tyres have been a long-standing eyesore.

Mr Gawn, of Melton Constable, confirmed his first duty was to deal with the tyre dump. He had already gained planning approval for the temporary storage of the tyres for a further 18 months to enable him to start the shredding and removal process.

He also intended to seek approval for a permanent recycling facility to help the countywide problem of dealing with waste tyres. Local jobs would be generated as a result.

The tidying up of the business park along with improvements to roads and general services were planned. With his architect, he was preparing an "eco-solution" master plan for the overall site to encourage investment.

The bank stated: "Tattersett Park is a natural addition to Mr Gawn's successful regeneration of RAF West Raynham as an eco-friendly village, West Raynham Park, only a few miles away. It is another in a long series of regeneration projects he has undertaken in the county."
