Plodding the Peddars Way for charity
INTREPID walkers will plod 50 miles in four days next week in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Around 15 walkers and supporters will line up for the Peddars Plod event on Tuesday, and will aim to complete the Peddars Way route from Knettishall Health near Thetford to Holme by next Friday.
The event was originally organised to celebrate 50 years of scouting in Toftwood, East Dereham, and the 50th birthday of its visually-impaired group scout leader Carol Goodbody.
But organisers decided to use it to also raise money for charity, with more than £1,000 already being raised.
Half the money will go towards developing the scout group’s premises, with the other half going to charities including Different Strokes in Lynn, the Kearns Foundation, near Norwich, Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Care.
The final walking day will start at the Anmer village sign, which was a gift from Norfolk Scouts to the Queen on the scouting movement’s 50th anniversary in 1957 and was recommissioned and presented to her again on their centenary in 2007.
