Police break up South Acre 'rave'

POLICE broke up a rave in South Acre in the early hours of Sunday and arrested 14 people.

Five vehicles and sound equipment were also seized when a police helicopter and on-the-ground officers descended on a single-storey barn and woodland in the village.

It is the third time in recent weeks police have put an end to would-be raves after 800 people managed to gather in Little Dunham on New Year's Eve leaving piles of rubbish, excrement and drugs paraphernalia in their wake.

Chief Inspector Nick Davison said the action over Sunday's gathering was demonstration that Norfolk Police will not tolerate these gatherings.

He said: "It's part of a continued operation that demonstrates our zero tolerance approach towards such gatherings.

"These events not only create safety concerns with large numbers of people in unsuitable buildings with little or no consideration to health and safety regulations but they are extremely anti-social and cause a great deal of distress to local people. Of equal importance is the detrimental impact they have on the environment.

"Where evidence is found to identify those responsible we will do everything we can to bring them to justice and we will always prosecute whenever possible."

A land owner alerted police to a convoy of vehicles congregating on land at South Acre with loud music being played from a sound system just after midnight on Sunday morning and police moved in to block off access to the area, a police statement said.

A total of 14 people were arrested for crimes including offences relating to the organising of a rave and the alleged possession and supply of Class A and B drugs.

Police have now made a renewed appeal to landowners and the public to remain vigilant and to immediately report any invasions onto property by people who may be intent on holding a rave.

Anyone who has information about an illegal rave or witnesses suspicious activity should contact Norfolk Constabulary on 0845 555111 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
