Police say Terrington is priority area for action
TERRINGTON is a priority area for Police action, the village's annual parish assembly was told.
In view of the police attendance it was decided to allow time before the start of the meeting for them to speak and answer any questions.
Police outlined the changes in the area policing and policy and the priorities of which Terrington St Clement is one.
Problems are noted with regard to Churchgateway at the church, village hall and playing field, also Benns Lane, Alma Chase and the childrens' play area in respect of behaviour and attitudes.
It was noted that there has been support by the youth worker in respect of problems and it was suggested that advice be sought from Mr Yallop of Lynn Discovery Centre.
The meeting was attended by 11 parish councillors, the county councillor, 20 parishioners and two police representatives.
The meeting was then convened and the chairman welcomed all present.
Following the approval of the minutes of 2008, the folllowing points were noted.
Station Road junction had been altered in March but the changes have led to even more confusion and a further meeting has taken place since then. It is now intended to alter the hatched areas and put up new signs.
Chapel Road bus stop cannot be used due to the junction of Chapel Road and Wesley Road not allowing sufficent room for the buses to negotiate this.
Village centre bus shelters had not been pursued until talks on the route of buses have concluded.
The Parish Plan will require a group of people willing to carry out the work involved and this is the priority. It was suggested that Janice Howells be approached to give a presentation on this.
The business board has not yet been updated and has been removed for the present for work on the pavilion.
It was reported that the Church Hall is now under offer again for conversion to a dwelling.
The lights at the entrance to Alma Lodge drive are still confusing motorists.
The chairman then reported on the activities of the council during the year.
There have been two changes of council members with Cllr P. Spooner replacing Cllr S. Atter and Cllr Mike Maries retiring after 30 years service.
A replacement is being sought.
A village website is now in place thanks to Cllr M. Catlin.
A piece of land next to the playing field became available and the council decided it would be an asset to the parish and has agreed to purchase it.
The Village Sign has been repaired and repainted by the clerk and is now back in place on a new metal post.
The council have again asked if Terrington St Clement can be added to the sign on the A47 at Terrington St John.
The kissing gate on the churchyard footpath was stolen and has had to be replaced.The tennis courts have been repainted.
The council has given it's usual donations to parish and other worthy causes and has agreed to support the newly formed Pantomime Group.
Grant Aid has been secured for the council by the Tennis Club for improvements to the pavilion and courts repainting, by Cllr Girdlestone for a new cutter for the Bowling Green and by the PACT group of parishioners whose hard work has gained the funding for building a replacement main pavilion on the field. They were all congratulated for their efforts.
A Youth Group has been established in the village with an aim to provide a skateboard facility and youth shelter. They are looking to see if Grant Aid can be obtained. They are planning to organise a Village Fair this summer.
The council is very concerned regarding the Local Government Review and its attempt to alter the present three tier system to a single authority based in Norwich, as it is felt that this will seriously disadvantage this area and other outlying parts of the county.
The councillors and clerk were thanked for all their hard work and support during the year.
Following the reports on the accounts of the local charities and the parish council, the meeting moved on to discussions on parish affairs.
Some time was spent on discussing the purchase of the piece of land and its possible use for the skateboard facility and the large increase in the precept as a result of this and the situation was explained.
it was asked again if the recycling bins could be moved elsewhere as they do not enhance the Memorial Field.
The problem is finding another suitable site.
The bus route situation gave rise to futher discussion.
The thorn hedge in Wesley Road is causing a problem for cyclists and pedestrians.
