Police to target Lynn criminal damage

POLICE patrols have been stepped-up in parts of Lynn in a bid to tackle a worrying trend of criminal damage.

Statistics from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams for November 26 to December 11 reveal that 30 incidents of criminal damage were reported in the area known as Lynn North.

The figures show that at least one incident was recorded on all but two of the days, with multiple offences logged on a number of different days.

The Lynn North area covers the historic town centre as well as the residential and industrial areas to its north and the Friars residential area to the south.

Sgt John Bane, of the Lynn North team, said: "We have been experiencing a few problems which we are now targeting.

"I think this has been part of the run up to Christmas. Between December and January the figures for these crimes does go up and that is recognised. I do not know what the reasons are. These have been relatively minor offences, but unfortunately they are classed as criminal damage.

"We are doing increased patrols in the area and there has been a decline since Christmas."

In comparison, the team covering Gaywood, Fairstead and Reffley recorded 16 incidents of criminal damage during the same period, with three in South and West Lynn and a further three in The Woottons.

The figures for Lynn North also show that five incidents of theft from a motor vehicle were recorded, along with two dwelling burglaries and two offences of theft.
