Post strike leads to blood alert
VITAL paperwork relating to medical services in West Norfolk appears to have fallen foul of the recent postal strike.
Blood donors across the region are being urged to book an appointment to give blood after crucial reminder notices were delayed, meaning invitation letters of when and where donations can be made have not been available.
And a survey on Norfolk Primary Care Trust (PCT) diabetes services has also faced problems as some residents have yet to receive their questionnaire, despite the deadline for returns being today.
The National Blood Service (NBS) is asking donors, who have not given blood in the last 16 weeks, to call the donor helpline and book an appointment to continue their support.
The latest setback comes after the service revealed a recent decline in blood stocks.
NBS spokesman Gareth Bell said: “Blood products only have a very short shelf life, just five days in some cases, and a constant flow of donors is needed to maintain stocks.
“Because some of our most loyal donors might not have received the details for the coming sessions we would like to remind everyone how important it is to give blood.”
Norfolk PCT spokesman Rebecca Champion said the diabetes survey is aimed at gathering evidence from local patients about services in the county and will be used to redesign service provision.
She added: “We would like to appeal to anyone in Norfolk who receives a survey to fill it in anyway and return it to Norfolk PCT in the pre-paid envelope provided as soon as possible. Your views are vital and very welcome.”
