Pott Row drink-driver ran across field

A DRINK-driver abandoned his car and ran across a field in a desperate bid to escape the police, a court heard this week.

Thomas Leggett (27) was followed by officers after he pulled out in front of a police car while driving a Lexus on January 26.

Lynn Magistrates' Court heard on Wednesday that he later abandoned the vehicle on Broad Drove, Grimston, and ran across a field, prompting a police search of the area.

After his arrest, Leggett, of 8 Chapel Road, Pott Row, admitted drink-driving and said his actions were not "the most sensible thing to do."

He then took a breath test which gave a reading of 64 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Mr Ben Pearson, mitigating, said: "He has been rather foolish but is a man of good character."

Leggett was given a 16-month driving ban, fined 300 and told to pay 60 in costs with a 15 surcharge.

The disqualification will be reduced by four months on completion of a drink-drive rehabilitation course.
