Princess Anne visits - watch slideshow of pictures

PRINCESS Anne enjoyed a visit to Wallington Hall near Downham yesterday (Wednesday) to see West Norfolk's Riding for the Disabled Association at the Magpie Centre.

The visit attracted hordes of people despite the cold weather.

The Princess, president of the Riding for the Disabled Association, was greeted by borough Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Gillian Pitcher, before she spent time with the horses.

She also spoke for a long time with Magpie Centre volunteers, riders and representatives from the charity, which gives any disabled person the opportunity to try horse riding.

Emily White (17), of Downham, a volunteer and rider at the centre for two years, said: "It was really nice. I was nervous though. She asked me how long I have been riding here."

Izaak Chesney-Beales (10), of East Walton, who has ridden at the Magpie Centre for six years, gave her the thumbs up.

His father, Steve Chesney-Beales, a trustee of the WNRDA, added: "She was very normal and pleasant. Izaak thought Princess Anne was cool."

The special guest presented rosettes to a group of riders, who then performed a routine enjoyed by everyone.

After she presented special awards, which thanked volunteers for their long service to the charity, Princess Anne was handed a posy by six-year-old Rhiannon Croft, of Outwell.

The princess then left by helicopter - a long time after she was due to leave - which was watched by a large waving crowd.
