Proud Lynn cadets mark 67-year history

LYNN Air Training Corps cadets paraded to mark the anniversary of the formation of the ATC 67 years ago.

The contingent from 42F Squadron marched on Sunday, February 3, through The Walks to St John's Church behind the squadron banner which was carried by Cadet Sergeant Michael Gill.

They were inspected by West Norfolk Mayor, Kathy Mellish, before going into the church for a service led by their squadron padre, Rev Corin Child.

The church parade was the second anniversary event over the weekend. The celebrations started on the Friday with the annual dining-in night at Lynn Town Hall. It was attended by cadets, staff, the civilian committee and invited guests including the mayor, the Deputy Borough Mayor Michael Langwade, who was a 42F cadet in the 1950s, the squadron president Chief Superintendent Alan Hayes, Wing Commander Tony Hipperson, who is officer commanding Norfolk and Suffolk wing of the ATC, and Wing Staff Officer Squadron Leader Tim Hill.

Also on the guest lists were Geoff Bullen who was the first cadet to join 42F and Tony Williamson, who was a cadet in the war years and returned to serve on the civilian committee for 40 years.

Before leaving, Mr Bullen said: "Thank you for inviting us. You can be as proud of the squadron and the cadets of 42F today as we were to belong to the squadron in our day."
