Ra-ra-Rasputin: Restaurant has them raving
A NEW restaurant with an unusual flavour is getting a positive reaction, its chef and owner has said.
Rasputin Russian restaurant was launched in Swaffham by Irina Spezeva, who grew up in Estonia with Russian parents.
She said she hoped the restaurant would help develop an understanding of the heritage of a growing Eastern European population.
She said: "It has had a very positive reaction from everybody."
The Plowright Place eatery's menu includes pickled cucumbers with honey, which it advises should be taken as a snack with a shot of ice-cold Vodka, tenderized lamb fillets in pomegranate juice and a salad of boiled carrots, potatoes, peas and gerkins.
Miss Spezeva (25) came to Swaffham almost five years ago, firstly working in a factory before getting a job at Swaffham hotel Strattons, where she decided a Russian restaurant would be a success.
She said: "The geographic location of Russia, between Europe and Asia, had a tremendous impact on the development of Russian cuisine. One can find a mix of European and Asian recipes, techniques and ingredients gracefully assembled in Russian cuisine to create rich, immense flavours."
