Rally cry goes up in Wimbotsham
THE desperate fight to save rural post offices in our region reaches Wimbotsham tonight when residents will be able to voice concerns about the loss of services in their village.
Wimbotsham Parish Council has called a public meeting in response to the bombshell news the village sub-post office is facing the axe with a replacement outreach service now on the cards.
The move will see restricted services available from the village hall car park on weekdays and parish council officials now want to hear what residents think about the proposal.
Those who attend tonight's meeting at the village hall from 6.30pm will also have the opportunity to back the Lynn News Save Our Post Offices campaign by signing our petition.
Parish clerk Mrs Lilian Bowman said: "We want to ask people what their views are. We are having an outreach service coming in, it is not coming every day but at different times on different days so it is going to be difficult to remember when it will be here.
"The lady at the post office says she wants to keep it open so we need to hear what residents think."
The Lynn News has already received more than 350 coupons from outraged readers who have opposed the closures, while hundreds of signatures have also been added to petitions across the region.
One person supporting the campaign is former sub-postmistress Christina Jenner-Akehurst (81), of Tottenhill, who has collected more than 40 signatures on one of our petitions.
She said: "I am angry to think this is happening. The Post Office is more than 600 years old and we have got one of the best services in the world yet we are closing our eyes to it.
"We need an inquiry into this. We vote for the people in Parliament, but they are not listening to the public at all."
