Ran from police after North Lynn window broken

PANIC set in when Warren Self feared he would be wrongly blamed for breaking a window.

He ran from police leading to him appearing before Lynn magistrates on Monday charged with obstructing officers called to the scene of the breakage.

Self (19), of 104 Bagge Road, Gaywood, admitted the offence, for which he was fined 50 and ordered to pay 55 costs. He also admitted possessing cannabis, for which he was conditionally discharged for a year. The magistrates ordered the cannabis to be destroyed.

Kevin Eastwick, prosecuting, said Self told police he was at an address in St Edmundsbury Road, North Lynn, on November 24 last year when someone broke a window.

He went outside in case of further trouble, but when police arrived to deal with the incident they focused their attention on him.

Fearing he was in trouble for something he had not done, he pulled away from the officers and ran.

When arrested five weeks later, he was found to have a small amount of cannabis on him, said Mr Eastwick.

Ruth Johnson, for Self, said both offences were very minor. He ran from police because panic set in. The cannabis was a very small amount for his own use.

Self had been in full-time employment for two years. He was the father of two children with another on the way.

Unfortunately, his relationship with his partner had ended, but they were still on good terms, said Miss Johnson.
