AN EAGLE-EYED volunteer uncovered two books in donations to a charity shop worth a combined total of almost £1,000.
A first edition The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, worth £700, was on the shelf in the stockroom ready to go on sale alongside titles marked up for £1.99 in Oxfam, Norfolk Street, Lynn.
Then Asperger’s sufferer Laura Macgregor, 23, was sorting through a box of donations when she uncovered a Peter and Wendy by JM Barrie, thought to be a fourth edition worth around £200.
Shop manager Jane Haskins said: “To have one turn up is brilliant but to have two is unbelievable. Until now the highest value item I’ve known us have is a wedding dress marked up for £150.
“You can build a school in a developing country for £1,000.”
The books will go on sale in the shop on Saturday – inside a locked cabinet. If they do not sell they will go to specialist auction.
