Recognition for Lynn Legion stalwarts
SOME of the Poppy Appeal stalwarts who helped to collect nearly £30,500 in the Lynn and district area last year have received certificates to mark their efforts.
Those who have taken part in the Royal British Legion collection over the last five consecutive years were invited to a get-together at Lynn Conservative Club. They received certificates to mark appreciation of the work they have put into the Appeal and Les and Ann Bunn were presented with the Malgwen Award.
Gerry Tann, who is Poppy Appeal organiser for Lynn and district, explained that this award is made annually to the helper or helpers who have "gone the extra mile" for the collection.
In the case of Mr and Mrs Bunn, he said they had helped to get the collection boxes ready and helped to distribute them round the villages.
Mr Tann also said that it had been a highly-successful collection last year, raising 30,485.65 to date. The Norfolk figure, he said, had reached over 500,000 and nationally the Appeal had raised more than 29 million.
The certificates were presented by the Lynn Royal British Legion branch president Ken Jones.
