Recycling centre to move to South Lynn?

PLANS to relocate a waste and recycling centre to the Willows Business Park on South Lynn's Saddlebow Road could see up to 900 vehicles a day – including 35-tonne lorries.

The new centre would deal with some 8,000 tonnes a year and selected items will be sold to the public for re-use in a move to encourage further recycling.

Members of the county council's planning regulatory committee are due to discuss the application at a meeting on Friday, but it is recommended to be approved.

It would see the relocation of the community recycling centre at Horsley's Field which, says the report, would be beneficial to air quality as users will not have to drive through the centre of Lynn.

St Germans Parish Council does not object to the proposal, but has suggested "far more screening" for the site and a reduction of speed limits on the road to the estate from the Willows roundabout.

"Selected items bought into the site will be sold for re-use, in line with safety and trading standards requirements.

Other items associated with recycling and composting, including compost bins made from recycled plastic and compost, will also be sold," says the report.

The new centre will include recycling facilities for green garden waste, metals, paper, cardboard, textiles, brick rubble, waste motor oil, batteries, flourescent tubes, glass, paints and electrical equipment.

"The site is appropriate for this development and it would result in no material detriment to the appearance and character of the area.

The proposal complies with development plan policies and is recommended for approval subject to conditions concerning environmental protection," concludes the report.

If approved, there will be a number of conditions, including those relating to hours of working and landscaping.
