Renewed pleas for roundabout
RENEWED efforts are being made for a roundabout at Terrington amid claims it takes a tragedy to happen in order for something to be done.
Terrington resident and former newsagent Bob Hornigold has long blasted the junction where Station Road meets the A17 in the village, near the African Violet Centre.
It was at this junction on October 23 where 17-year-old motorist Kerry Ann Powell died in a crash.

County figures show that in the last five years there have also been three serious-injury accidents and one slight-injury accident at the junction. Figures for the last ten years show there had been another fatal accident.
Mr Hornigold (75), of Churchgate Way, had long campaigned with a committee for the A17, which was built in the mid-1980s, between Sutton Bridge and the Pullover roundabout.
However, on seeing plans for the junction with Station Road, he was horrified. "We had complaints. We did not like that junction," he said.
He had also been concerned that there would be no lighting at the junction, but this has been provided in the last six or seven years. However, Mr Hornigold was still not happy and it was at the parish assembly in April 2006 that he suggested the idea of a roundabout. Mr Hornigold and fellow resident David Hillier raised the matter again at this year's assembly in April.
Terrington St Clement Parish Council has since written to Norfolk County Council asking if it has any plans to make safety improvements at the junction, and is awaiting a reply.
Last week the Lynn News reported councillor for Terrington Brian Long had, since the death of Miss Powell, also called for a roundabout, to see what could be done to prevent such tragedies in future.
Mr Hornigold said: "We have to have another tragedy before we get anything done. If you continue on the A17 into Lincolnshire, every junction has got a roundabout on it."
Mr Hillier said the situation was "desperate" and said radical structural work needed to be done. "We have had another tragedy and nobody wanted this to happen. I feel dreadfully sorry for Miss Powell's parents and boyfriend, but perhaps this can be a springboard for action."
A county council spokesman told the Lynn News the roundabout had been looked at following Miss Powell's death, although the council was awaiting the police report into the accident.
