Residents win battle to stop 17 Gaywood homes
PLANNING chiefs have turned down controversial plans for 17 new homes in Gaywood amid fears of overcrowding.
The developer, a client of David Taylor Associates, was hoping to build the semi-detached and terraced houses on land west of Mill Lane, off Wootton Road, but the application was refused at a meeting of West Norfolk Council's development control board on Monday.
Members decided to visit the site and examine the proposal in more detail when it appeared on the agenda at last month's planning meeting on Monday, September 3.
Some residents raised concerns about the development and the effect it could have on properties in nearby Folly Grove and Hill Road, believing the houses could block out light and overlook homes and gardens.
A report to Monday's meeting said the "cramped" development would be overbearing and result in an unacceptable loss of privacy.
It went on: "The proposal would not result in high quality, inclusive design and consequently fails to take advantage of the opportunities available to improve the character and quality of the area."
