Retirement village jobs
UP to 60 jobs could be created if plans for a retirement village, including a care home, on the outskirts of Swaffham get the go-ahead.
Recently-retired businessman John Ball, who used to live at Stanfield House in the town’s Lynn Road, is seeking permission from Breckland Council for residential development on a 2.4-acre site around his former home.
Dereham-based Pelorus Planning and Property is acting as agent development and architectural designer Anthony Pettifer, from the firm, said most of the full and part-time jobs would be created at the 45-bedroom care home on the site.
“It would be purpose-built to the most stringent standards for care homes and would include some high dependency dementia rooms,” he said.
Within the landscaped grounds, there would also be 13 two-bedroom retirement cottages. Residents could live entirely independently or, if their needs change, they could take advantage of meals, the laundry and nursing services provided.
“There will be extra rooms where doctors and specialists can come to treat people, like at a surgery,” he added. It would provide a minibus service into town and there would be 34 parking spaces, minibus and ten cycles on the site.
