Ronnie gives young jobless the last laugh

PINT-sized comedian Ronnie Corbett took Brancaster by storm when he turned up at a charity golf day – and helped raise £60,000 in the process.

Ronnie – famous for his work with the late Ronnie Barker, as well as a string of television appearances in his own right – was taking part in the golf day and auction at the Royal West Norfolk Golf Club to help raise thousands of pounds for unemployed young people in Norfolk.

The day, in aid of youth charity, the Prince's Trust, included an 18-hole golf competition and charity auction, a week in Portugal and a day at Newmarket races being just two of the prizes being bid for.

The event's main sponsors were R. G. Carter and Jarrolds, with additional support from local businesses.

Commercial manager of Prince's Trust East of England Mrs Jenny Coppard was overwhelmed at the amount raised telling the Lynn News: "We're delighted with the response to the golf day.

"Ronnie Corbett, who also did ten minutes of stand-up comedy, was hilarious."

Some 150 people took part in the day – Ronnie himself completing a round.

There were also a number of extra fundraising initiatives being organised throughout the day, including a raffle.

The trust gives practical and financial support to 14 to 30-year-olds who have struggled at school, been in care, been long-term unemployed or in trouble with the law.

The money raised will be spent helping disadvantaged young people in Norfolk.
