Royal crest for Lynn vehicle hire firm

WHEN The Queen's gundogs at Sandringham are taken to Scotland for the Royal Family's summer holiday at Balmoral this year they will travel in vans displaying the royal crest.

For they will be in a vehicle from Hampsons car hire at Lynn, which has been granted a royal warrant for supplying Sandringham Estate with a range of cars, vans and minibuses over the past six years.

It means that the Hardwick Road business can now use the term By Appointment and display The Queen's coat-of-arms on its vehicles, premises, stationery and advertisements.

Delighted branch manager Neil Blythe said: "We were notified about the royal warrant in a letter from the Lord Chamberlain's office at Buckingham Palace last week.

"We have been supplying the royal estate with vans for all sorts of purposes. They are used on the fruit farms, by the game department when they organise shoots, and by the kennels and royal stud staff.

"We also supply them with vehicles when they have various shows on the estate, like carriage driving."

Hampsons has a fleet of about 200 vehicles for hire at Lynn and six staff running the branch, which opened at its present location seven years ago.

Royal warrants are granted to people or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services for a minimum of five consecutive years to The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh or the Prince of Wales.

They are initially granted for five years, but can be renewed after being reviewed by the Royal Household Tradesmen's Warrants Committee to ensure that high standards have been maintained.

The first royal warrants were granted in the 15th century, although previously there were royal charters rewarding loyal service dating back to 1155. There are currently about 800 royal warrant holders.
