Sadness at successful organ festival – it may be the last
HUNDREDS of people enjoyed music in the sun at Hunstanton's final street organ grinding festival, which raised a brilliant £971.21 for people living with a skin blistering condition.
The crowds were treated to the sounds of 18 organs which were played around the town over the weekend.
And visitors raised the highest amount so far, to help sufferers of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) a genetic condition causing shearing of the skin from even gentle friction.
But organisers Shon and Yvonne Gosling said after an appeal in the Lynn News to find someone else to plan next year's event failed, this 13th annual festival would probably be the last.
Mrs Gosling (56), of Yardley, Birmingham, said: "It's sad that this may be the last one. But maybe another town, not necessarily by the seaside, would welcome the organ grinders."
She asked for anyone who may be interested in organising the event elsewhere in West Norfolk to contact her on 07714 719015.
And any local businesses who could sponsor the festival next year, if it goes ahead, can also contact her on this number.
Around 34 organ grinders from across the country headed for Sunny Hunny to perform, and four organs were played at a special service at St Mary's Church, Old Hunstanton, on Sunday morning.
A Dutch street organ called a Heesbeen was played near the bandstand, which also drew in the crowds.
All the musicians collected cash for national charity DebRA, a support group and medical research organisation for people living with EB.
Mrs Gosling wanted to thank Hunstanton Bakery and Carman's Bakery for sponsoring the event, the ladies who did the catering in the town's community centre on Saturday night and Sunday lunchtime, and the centre manager.
