Sailing Club hands £1,600 to Lifeboat Appeal
THE Lynn News-backed appeal to provide Hunstanton RNLI with a new lifeboat was further boosted on Saturday when a bumper cheque for £1,600 was handed over by Hunstanton Sailing Club.
The cash has been raised in three different ways – contributions from club members, money made from the Lifestyles 2007 Festival held at Hunstanton in June (whose hosts included the club and West Norfolk Council) and also a ball held by the club in October.
The money was handed over at the club's annual dinner at the Rose and Crown Inn in Snettisham.
At the event member Andy Holland was also presented with a cup by Lifeboat Guild chairman Margaret Bullen for winning an open meeting sailing dinghy event at Hunstanton in August.
The 125,000 appeal was launched in August last year to provide Hunstanton with an Atlantic 85 lifesaving inshore lifeboat.
"Everyone who uses the water is really grateful that the lifeboat exists," club commodore Mr Stuart Moore said.
Mrs Bullen said 2,000 for the appeal had also been raised from a guild Christmas fair at Hunstanton Town Hall on November 14 and a further 1,100 from a fishermen's supper event at the Lifeboat Inn at Thornham last Thursday.
