Sampling Saxon life with Wulfric the Scop
STAFF and pupils at a Gaywood school stepped back in time when they met up with a Saxon storyteller called Wulfric the Scop.
He arrived at St Martha’s Catholic Primary School to spend the day with children and teach them the finer points of Saxon life, complete with lyre music and the story of Beowulf, the hero of a famous Anglo-Saxon poem.
The day of historical exploration concluded with the Battle of Hastings after pupils at the Field Lane school spent the afternoon making Saxon weapons to take part.
The event was presented by Portals of the Past which brings history to life for schools with Roman, Viking and Saxon days.
