Queen's Bible awarded to 10 year old Abigail Simms, pupil at Flitcham Church of England Primary School.

The Queen presented a signed Bible to 10-year-old Abigail Simms at Sandringham House yesterday.

The Flitcham Primary School pupil won a competition to depict a story or incident from the Bible in her own way.

Abigail said: “The Queen seemed really happy. It was nice to meet her.

“She asked a little bit about how long it took me to make my project and what the writing was about.

“She also asked a little bit about hobbies. I told her how often I swim and do gymnastics and she said she used to swim, too.”

The Rev Jonathan Riviere, Rector of Sandringham, chose Abigail’s model of the Bible story Storm on the Lake as the winning entry.

Abigail said: “I was excited. I didn’t expect to win so it was a surprise.”

Winston Churchill’s grandson Nicholas Soames, Mid Sussex MP, joined The Queen and Prince Philip at a church service at Sandringham yesterday. Prince Philip and Mr Soames walked to the church from Sandringham House, while The Queen arrived by car.

The Royal party was greeted by a large crowd of wellwishers and The Queen accepted flowers from children following the service, which was conducted by the Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Rt Rev Paul Butler.
