Santa's Lynn helpers boost project
SANTA'S sleigh street collections by Lynn's Trinity Rotary Club have boosted a farming scheme making a difference to problem youngsters.
The club has presented 500 to the Willow Tree Farm Young Persons Project at Hillington, run by Neil and Liz Riseborough.
Mrs Riseborough said the project was aimed at disaffected young people with low self-esteem. "We help young people who are at risk of exclusion from school, or have been excluded, and young people dabbling in drugs or crime," she said.
The teenagers learned life skills and animal care and Mrs Riseborough said: "It does seem to make a difference. We have noticed it. They love it because the work is so varied. It might involve animals, fencing, conservation work, growing crops, learning about farming life, construction or woodwork."
Trinity Rotary Club's donation will go towards installing central heating in the farm's schoolroom.
The club's fundraising chairman, John Taylor, said: "One of our Rotarians is a heating engineer. He has got all the materials and is supplying the labour for free and I am supplying the boiler."
A further donation from the Trinity club's Christmas fundraising would be needed and Mr Taylor said a long-term association with the farm project could follow.
A sleigh and Santa with Rotarian helpers toured areas around Lynn collecting donations. Nearly 2,000 was raised in South Lynn, Gaywood, Lynn town centre, the Rainbow car park at South Wootton, North Lynn and West Lynn.
