Scientists are super sleuths at Gaywood

Budding scientists became super sleuths for the day when they visited Gaywood's Park High School to solve the mystery of who kidnapped Jerry the mouse.

The case was organised for entrants in this year's science challenge, which was organised by the school for youngsters in primary schools across the region.

Each team had to put their forensic skills to the test after being told Jerry had gone missing from Toon Town and that Tom was suspected of taking him.

Pupils had to carry out tests on a selection of evidence such as fur, soil and threads, before identifying the culprit.

Teacher Cath Duhig said: "These events are always hotly contested. The number of schools taking part goes up every year and they really seem to enjoy it."

This year's event saw 23 schools taking part with the winning team coming from Lynn's Eastgate Primary School, with Greyfriars Primary School, of Lynn, second and Gaywood's Howard Junior School third.

The event was supported by Dow Chemical and Winning Ways, of Downham.
