Senators' talks with MP at House of Commons
BUDDING politicians have been given a behind-the-scenes look at the Houses of Parliament as part their role on the new student senate at Methwold High School.
The students had a full tour of Westminster and learned about the UK democratic process, what politicians do and how Parliament works.
They also discovered some of the fascinating history of the building and even got to stand in the Prime Minister’s place at the dispatch box, while South West Norfolk MP Christopher Fraser spoke about his experiences in the House and his work as an MP.
The senate has already met twice this half-term, focused on further improving the school for the benefit of students.
School uniform has been hotly debated, with several recommendations being discussed with the headteacher. Students can now wear plain black V-neck jumpers beneath their blazers, after previously being told they could not wear anything other than a shirt.
Mr Steven Farmer, assistant headteacher and initiator of the senate, said: “The senate has provided students with the forum for influencing decisions about their school.”
