Send 'Save Our Post Offices' petitions
THE Lynn News Save Our Post Offices campaign is now four weeks old and has continued to flourish with floods of protest material reaching our offices.
Petitions are going strong across the region in places such as Downham, Wimbotsham, Fakenham and Ringstead, and more than 550 coupons have been received from readers opposing the closures.
The closing date for our campaign will be Wednesday, May 14, and we are now urging supporters to get their petitions and coupons to us as soon as possible.
The Lynn News hopes to meet North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham and South West Norfolk MP Christopher Fraser at Westminster a week later to officially submit our campaign.
Baroness Gillian Shephard, of Northwold, has also voiced her concerns about the post office closures and was due to give a speech in the House of Lords yesterday about how the move will impact on rural life.
Mr Bellingham has agreed to present our documents to Postwatch, the watchdog for postal services, before the consultation period closes on June 2.
As well as driving our own campaign we are actively encouraging readers to write directly to Post Office bosses about the specific issues facing them with detailed information and statistics to support their case.
Letters should be sent to Laura Tarling, Network Development Manager, c/o National Consultation Team, FREEPOST Consultation Team; email consultation@postoffice.co.uk or call 08457 223344.
