Sent sex clips of himself to under-age girl
A GAYTON man sent indecent pictures and video clips of himself to a 15-year-old girl he had previously had a sexual relationship with.
Alan Tombs (40) had already escaped with a caution in June 2006 and was placed on the sex offenders' register after the youngster, with whom he had a sexual relationship, decided not to pursue it further.
Now he has been given a last chance to deal with his problems or face the prospect of prison.
Tombs was made the subject of a three-year community order with a supervision requirement when he appeared at Lynn Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday and will now undergo a 200-hour course through the Thames Valley Sex Offenders' Group Work Programme to help address his behaviour.
Tombs, of 19 Springvale, had admitted at a hearing in August to causing a child under the age of 16 to watch a sexual act.
Mr David Wilson, prosecuting, said Tombs' sexual relationship with the girl came to light after the girl's mother found out about it and contacted the police.
Shortly after the caution was made either Tombs, or a person unknown, left a mobile telephone at the girl's school with a message for her to collect it.
The couple started exchanging text messages and Tombs later sent indecent pictures and video clips of himself to the girl.
Mr Wilson said that in August 2006 the girl started a relationship with a new boyfriend but the text messages continued, which the girl described as "quite creepy."
Her mother later found the phone and reported the matter to the police.
When interviewed, Tombs said he made contact with the girl after thinking with "his heart instead of his head".
He told officers he did not see her as a minor as she "brought herself out in an adult keel".
Mr David Owen-Jones, defending, said: "He had not come to terms with the fact that the relationship was at an end. He thought he was still in love with her.
"He has not sought to deny his actions. He now accepts that although she was silent she was not saying 'send me more pictures'.
"He accepts what he did was highly irresponsible and should have known that in due course she would object and bring this to the authorities."
On passing sentence, Recorder Guy Ayers told Tombs that if the community order was breached he would undoubtedly go to custody.
He said: "You obviously knew her age and knew through the caution it was your duty to stay away from that girl and all girls under the age of consent.
"You put together an intricate plan to establish contact with the girl and sent pictures and short video clips of yourself to her.
"This is the last chance you will get to sort yourself out and understand what are appropriate relationships and what are not."
