Shellfish factory extension OK

THE owner of a Lynn shellfish company says common sense has prevailed after being granted permission for an extension despite objections from residents.

Planning officers at West Norfolk Council had recommended a raised roof and mezzanine floor at John Lake Shellfish be refused because of its impact on neighbours.

But following a site visit to the Crossbank Road factory the plans were given the go-ahead, subject to conditions.

The company will now be able to store empty cans for filling on-site, rather than having to transport them from an adjacent building.

Company owner John Lake, said: “Common sense has finally prevailed. The business has been in the family for generations. It seemed ludicrous that people can move into houses here and think they can change an industrial area.”

Objections from residents included concerns about noise, nuisance and disturbance, and there were “personal grievances” against Mr Lake, a report to the development control board said.
