Sit-com inspires West Norfolk charity bid

A HIT TV sit-com from the 1960s is the inspiration behind David Foulkes' next charity fundraising idea.

Sixty-five year-old Mr Foulkes plans to travel to the Houses of Parliament dressed as grubby rag-and-bone man Albert Steptoe.

He will be raising money for Hunstanton Royal British Legion and hopes that the venture will help him reach his fundraising target of 2,400 by the end of the year.

Mr Foulkes started fundraising for the legion and other local causes back in 1982 and he estimates that his total so far is around 27,000.

He will be travelling to Westminster on Tuesday, October 23, and will be met at the Houses of Parliament by North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham.

Meanwhile, Mr Foulkes has been getting into the swing of his Steptoe role by trotting around the lanes in the Heacham area in a pony and trap loaned by British Driving Society member Sam Denton (9), of Snettisham.
