Smiling Maisie like a little ray of sunshine

PROFOUND disabilities have not stopped Maisie Newell impressing all who know her with her happy disposition and cheeky sense of fun.

Maisie (8), of Terrington St Clement, is described by her sister, Holly Clements, as "a little ray of sunshine" who greets everyone she meets with a smile which lights up the room.

"She really is an inspiration to us all," said Holly, who has nominated her "special" sister for a Super Kids personal courage award.

She explained that Maisie, pictured, is profoundly disabled and suffers from cerebral palsy, severe learning difficulties intractable epilepsy and has a visual impairment.

She also has complex medical needs, including chronic lung damage which means she is oxygen dependent overnight.

In her short life, Maisie has already had to be admitted twice to paediatric intensive care, once at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and once at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge.

Holly said: "Even the nurses at Addenbrooke's were amazed by Maisie's upbeat outlook on life.

"Within hours of coming off a ventilator, she was full of smiles."

Maisie never complains about the difficulties she experiences as a result of her disabilities.

Holly told the Lynn News: "She is adored by her family.

"We are so proud of our precious princess and would love for her to receive the recognition she deserves.

"She really is a superstar, one in a million."
