Smithdon's Jessica (17) is community service winner

COMMUNITY-MINDED Smithdon High School student Jessica Levett has won an award for her charitable work.

She has received the fifth annual Hunstanton and District Rotary Club Centenary Award for Community Service and Enterprise.

Jessica (17), was one of a group of four students who last December organised a Christmas concert. The event showcased the musical talents of sixth-formers at the school and ticket sales and a raffle raised funds for Macmillan nurses.

She is also a member of the Hunstanton and District Festival of Arts Committee.

In school, Jessica enjoys working with younger pupils and has been part of a counselling service.

After working as a form assistant helping to settle new Year 7 pupils into the school last year, she won the form teacher's praise and was described as a teacher of the future.

Jessica's prize of 250 was presented by Rotary Club past president Mr Bob Wright. She said she planned to spend the award on computer equipment for university, where she hopes to study music.

The award was announced at the Year 13 final assembly and achievement presentation, attended by leaving sixth formers, their tutors and parents.

Sixth form director Mr Steve Chapman spoke about the varied achievements of the student group and his delight at the progress they had made.

As well as succeeding in their studies, students had taken part in a range of other activities, including voluntary work, community work, sport and Young Enterprise.

During the assembly, each student received an updated progress file summarising his or her achievements in the sixth form.
