SNETTISHAM: Update on bid to restore watermill

Villagers will be given a report on an investigation into a defunct restoration project next month.
Snettisham Parish Council has been looking through the accounts of Snettisham Watermill and Heritage Centre since taking over responsibility for it last year.
A committee of volunteers was formed in 2003 to restore the mill to its former glory but the project fizzled out when the site was sold for housing.
It lay dormant until August 2011, when the committee began to meet again and members agreed to pass over the accounts onto the parish council in March last year.
Villagers had been calling for the group to be wound up and the money to be distributed. The project account currently contains £1,600.
Parish council chairman Eric Langford said that the council will be giving an update at its next meeting on Wednesday, February 6, in the Memorial Hall, at 7.30pm.
Mr Langford said: “We have come to conclusions and we will make a statement.”
People in the village had rallied around to support the project after it was formed in 2003. The fundraising included a sponsored swim completed by a Shelagh Matsell and her family in 2004.
Last year she called for the £575 raised by her family to go to the lifeboat and Meadow House in Swaffham.
