SOUTH LYNN: Drink driver ‘danced in road after crash’, court told
A drink-driver danced and laughed in the road after being involved in an accident, Lynn magistrates heard on Tuesday.
Andrius Mikelauskes, 26, of Wisbech Road, South Lynn, admitted driving with nearly four times the legal amount of alcohol on his breath.
He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and banned from driving for three years. He was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £165 costs.
Yvonne Neill, prosecuting, said Mikelauskes’ car was involved in a crash on Clenchwarton Road, West Lynn, on November 18 last year.
After the crash, he played loud music on his car radio and was seen dancing and laughing in the road. He refused to give a breath test and was restrained and arrested.
A later test showed he had 130 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35. He later admitted he had drunk too much but could not remember how much.
Ian Graham, mitigating, said his client had stopped drinking completely since the accident and did not appear to have a drink or drug addiction.
“While his behaviour was less than desirable, it appears the court proceedings have had a salutary effect,” he said.
