SOUTH WOOTTON: Ruby, you’re a diamond
A kindhearted schoolgirl and her generous friends have raised around £300 for the NSPCC.
Ruby Jeffries of South Wootton celebrated her seventh birthday on Boxing Day and at her birthday party on Sunday she asked her friends to donate to the charity instead of buying her presents.
Ruby’s dad James Jeffries said: “She is a thoughtful little girl. We saw an advert for the NSPCC and she asked if we could give some money. I said no as we already give to charity. Then her brain starting working and about a week later she came up with the idea and said perhaps people could donate money for my birthday party instead of presents. Most seven-year-olds would rather have a room full of presents.”
On Sunday around 50 of Ruby’s friends from North Wootton Primary School joined her for a party and disco at Lynn’s Masonic Centre. After the party her mum Kelly told her she had raised about £300 but Ruby corrected her and said: “me and my friends have raised about £300.”
Mr Jeffries said: “She was over the moon. She’s one in a million when it comes to giving.”
