South Lynn launch of car-share scheme
A DRIVE to prove the green credentials of Lynn's new millennium community has been boosted by the launch of a car-sharing scheme – the first of its kind in West Norfolk.
Residents at Yours South Lynn now have a cash-saving car club, Commonwheels, with a low-emission Volkswagen Polo available for hire at 4 per hour to improve their environmentally-friendly travel choices.
Members can book the car, which does 70 miles per gallon, from as little as half-an-hour or for as long as they need. Bookings are made by phone or Internet and the car is opened using each member’s individual Smartcard.
The car is available 24 hours a day, and the fee includes maintenance and the first ten miles of fuel. More cars will be added to the fleet as awareness of the scheme increases. A pioneering partnership with Morston Assets, the developers involved in expanding the South Lynn community, has made the easily-accessible scheme possible.
Philip Igoe, Commonwheels chief executive, said: “Commonwheels is delighted by the launch of our first green car club in East Anglia. By providing inexpensive access to efficient vehicles, the South Lynn pay-as-you-drive scheme will enable members to save money and reduce their impact on the environment."
