Southery hall's £40,000 refit
REFURBISHMENT work costing more than £40,000, which has given Southery Village Hall a new lease of life, was officially opened last Thursday.
The ribbon was cut by Janice Howell, from Norfolk Rural Community Council which was one of the organisations that provided money for the project.
The village hall management committee chairman, Sandra Hart, said that the refurbishment would make a big difference for hall users. The work included a revamp for the toilets, entrance and cloak room area and provision of toilet facilities and access for the disabled.
She explained that the committee had contributed 3,000 to the overall cost and paid 7,000 for resurfacing work outside. The rest of the money came from grants from West Norfolk Council, Norfolk Rural Comunity Council, and Waste Recycling Environmental which funds community projects.
Among the guests at the opening last week was Irene Webber (82) who was one of the original members of the committee which set about raising money to build the hall in the late 1960s.
The latest work was carried out by N.J.B. Construction, of Downham.
Mrs Hart said they were all delighted with the improvements and that the hall is now available for hire for functions including weddings, discos and fundraising events.
