Southery youth club set to take off
PLANS are afoot to start a youth club in Southery and, if all goes well, it could be up and running by September.
Already, a management committee has been formed and the initiative has also won support from both Southery's Anglican and Methodist churches.
Chairman of the new club is Sue Jennings who told the Lynn News there had not been a youth club in the village for several years and felt there was a need for such a club to be formed.
"We had three drop-in meetings in St Mary's Church in February and March," said Mrs Jennings.
Already, around 17 young people aged between 11 and 18 had shown interest and this led to formation of the committee, she said.
Southery Parish Council held a public meeting on Monday to let the group tell village residents about plans for the club.
"Without the commitment of the young people, who want boxing, table tennis, snooker, pool, crafts, dancing and other activities, the club will not get off the ground," said Mrs Jennings.
"I hope that more young people will come forward to be on the committee."
A fundraising bring-and-buy family fun morning is being held in the Methodist church on Saturday, May 9, from 10.30am to 1pm to help launch the project.
It is hoped as many people as possible will be able to attend.
Grants will also have to be applied for, said Mrs Jennings, and anyone wanting to help with fundraising can ring her on 01366 378828.
