St Germans: MP supports bid to keep flood sirens

AT the last meeting it was reported that MP Henry Bellingham has sent a letter of support to retain the flood sirens.

A meeting was being held in Westminster and the outcome is awaited with bated breath.

The parish council support the flood sirens and believe that any other system of alerting residents could be ineffective, i.e mobile phones etc.

never attend

Also, parishioners present expressed concern that the County and Borough councillors never attended parish council meetings.

It was reported that the parish council had already shown concern over this, particularly in the case of the borough councillor.

Parishioners present had been in contact with the councillor and it was stated that he did not have the time to contact parishioners.

This is a real concern and the parish council feels very strongly about it and is aware of the essential need of communiction between the parish council and both upper levels of local government, i.e Borough and County.

Unfortunately, there is a real problem with graffiti on the play equipment at the Memorial Hall playing field.

Offensive words have been written in pen on a wooden play item.

Youths have also taken to drinking here and leaving broken glass which could be a real hazard to parishioners. It seems such a shame that after spending so much money on this area people can come along and ruin it for others.

Various highway issues are still outstanding from the summer and the clerk will contact highways once again for a progress report.

The parish council agreed to support the feasibility of a new memorial hall shared with the school.

It was stressed that this was really very early days and after research, particularly with the Charities Commission, may not even be viable or allowed.

However, if it does work it could be a real benefit and asset to all parishioners and the school.

noticeboard

A noticeboard for Saddlebow was discussed and it was decided to defer this until the next meeting when the precept is due to be voted on.

The positioning of the board may need permission from householders to put a board on their property, so there is a lot to think about.

The next meeting will be on Monday, January 19, at 7.30pm, when the precept for 2009/10 will be set.

All parishioners are welcome to come and have their say.
